Final Blog

Overall, I learned a lot about environmental and occupational health. Specifically, I learned a lot more about the chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis.  I had a little bit of an idea of chemical exposure. However, I did not know how extensive it was and how many chemicals we come into contact with. Chemical exposure was definitely the most interesting subject we covered in this course.

The blogs and blog groups were a great way to discuss the topics. However, I really disliked blogger.com as a platform. Canvas offers a similar platform that is way less glitching. After several post, I was unable to comment on one of my group members blogs. For a brief period of time, I thought they might have dropped the course because their blog was no longer loading or registering online. Additionally, while the blogs are a great way to discuss topics, I think the number of blogs should be cut down and students should just be required to comment on two of the blogs rather than every single blog. Overall, the blogs are a great idea. However, they need to be fine tuned because they just feel like busy work and a burden, rather than beneficial.

Finally, the general organization of Canvas and the TA's responses to questions versus the Professor were unorganized and frustrating at times. Due dates were unclear and confusing.  Additionally, students were given multiple, conflicting answers in regards to assignments and general coursework.

To sum it up, I really enjoyed the information covered in this course and the main assignments (i.e. literature review and NYTimes Book Review). However, the blogs seemed like busy work and the organization between students, TA's and professor were unorganized making the course somewhat frustrating and difficult to enjoy.

  1. Hi Ryan,

Learning about chemical exposure was fairly new to me and I appreciated the opportunity to learn about it because of the impact it can have on our health. With this knowledge, I plan on having more discussions with family and friends to educate them and spread awareness. I totally agree with you about the blogs and using Blogger.com. There were many times when my comments would not post, and the same blog post would keep showing up making it seem like certain blogs on yours and Meg's blogs were not posted. I had to continously refresh or exit the website to locate all blog posts. I was also very confused at times because of the miscommunication in the class messages regarding due dates, blog comments, etc. Thanks for providing your feedback! I think the changes you recommend would help the next class.
