- Product 1
- KIEHL'S ULTRA FACIAL CREAM (SPF 30)
I am a skincare obsessed person. I take really good care of my skin and make sure to never leave the house or travel without this moisturizer. Additionally, I make sure that I get the facial cream that has SPF 30 in it. Protection from the sun decreases skin damage and fights aging. Overall, this product has a score of a 3. I am not surprised by this because KIEHL's is a more expensive brand and markets themselves on their organic, natural ingredients.
- Product 2
- Thayers Natural Remedies Witch Hazel
As previously stated, I take really good care of my skin. I try not to put anything on my skin that is too intense or full of bad chemicals. I also do not leave my house without using this product or when traveling. This is especially useful on plains where the air is extremely dry and recycled. Toner cleanse the skin of any left over dirt and oils. However, it does not strip the skin of it's moisture. I use this before applying my moisturizer. Overall, this was rated as a 1.
- Were you surprised to find out the toxicity rating of your personal care products?
- I was not very surprised by the toxicity rating of my personal care products. When it comes to dealing with my skin, I make sure to go the extra mile and do my research regarding what products I am putting on my face. This is also my rule when it comes to shampoo, conditioner, etc.
- Did you decide to change any of your consumer behaviors based on your findings?
- I did not decide to change anything based on my findings.
- Should everyone know about this risks and why don’t they?
- Everyone should know about the risks. It is obvious that most companies will not tell you what the toxicity rating of their products. They want to market their product and make sure it sells well. However, I think people should know what they are using to make sure that they are living healthily and that the environment around them is healthy.

Hi Ryan! I really appreciate that you go the extra mile to research your products especially items you put on your face. For me, I really need to incorporate some these practices. Thanks for sharing your thoughts as to why the risks should be public knowledge. I definitely agree with you that information should be accessible to the communities that are buying these products.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the video I felt more educated and aware. It was a little overwhelming. However, the speaker provides a great dialogue and does not come off preachy or condescending. I did find this video to be very insightful and I was very surprised by the number of chemicals in common household items. Additionally, after asking friends and family about their knowledge on chemical and products, I found them to be less than educated. I believe that everyone should be educated about the chemicals in the products they are using because it will directly effect their health.
ReplyDeleteHi Ryan,
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see that you have made the effort to find products that you know will be good for your skin. I actually use one of the Thayer's toners too (the rose one) and now I'm curious to see how it will rank. I have a feeling the rose scent might be an irritant. After this assignment, I've realized that there are so many options and alternatives to the products I'm currently using. Thanks for sharing yours, I might actually look into this moisturizer too! :)
