Household Products
- Product 1
- Clorox Disinfecting Wipes
I use this product on a majority of the surfaces in my house. I specifically use these for when I am handling raw meat in the kitchen and it might touch a countertop or any other surface. After looking up this product, I did not see any hazardous reports or warnings.
- Product 2
- Mrs. Meyer's Hand Soap
I was unable to locate this product on the website. I went to look for other household items. However, a majority of my items were not found in the system. I could not find any of Costco's Kirkland Organic or Natural items nor could I find any of the Whole Foods 360 items. I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing.
- Were you surprised to find out the toxicity rating of your household products?
- I was surprised that the bleach wipes were not considered hazardous. However, I was surprised that I could not find or had trouble finding items on this website.
- Did you decide to change any of your consumer behaviors based on your findings?
- I did not decide to change any of my consumer behaviors. I generally go with more natural products. However, I use the wipes for cleaning to make sure any germs are removed.
- Should everyone know about this risks and why don’t they?
- Everyone should know the risks of the products they are using. These products live with us and we are surrounded by them on a regular basis. The ingredients in these products can be toxic or hazardous and consumers should be aware.

I use the same products! I only realize that when cleaning I should just be mindful of wearing gloves because of the combination of cleaning products I use at once. I find it interesting that you couldn't find anything on Mrs. Meyer's soap, I'm hoping that this means its a good product. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHi Ryan,
ReplyDeleteI use the clorox wipes and I used to use the Mrs. Meyer's hand soap. I was also surprised to find that the clorox wipes weren't hazardous. I feel like there is something missing that we aren't reading into because the chemicals used to kill bacteria must cause some risk. Nonetheless, I have decided to continue using these as well. I used to purchase the Mrs. Meyer's hand soap but switched about a year ago when I needed to save money. Unfortunatley, I downgraded to a soap that likely has more chemicals, though it didn't rate too badly in the database. Eventually, I want to find a healthier hand soap and would like to find more info on this one, in particular.
